Greening Your Library

Is your library green?  Did you know that there are easy steps you can take to significantly improve the greeness of your library?

On April 9, 2010, guest speaker Rebekkah Smith Aldrich joined LILRC and public and academic librarians for an informative and interactive presentation on options for low-cost things libraries can do to  become green as well as providing information on green options appropriate for library facilities.

Participants created a terrific interaction as they shared with one another their building ages, which ranged from less one year to a partially 80-year-old building.  Regardless of the age of the building, Rebekkah shared simple and easy solutions for implementing greener techniques, which can be viewed below (PDF format).

A facility plan outline is included as discussed during the presentation.  Rebekkah has also posted answers to questions that came up (like how to deal with a CFL that breaks) on my her website at: http://sustainablelibraries.org.

In addition, Micheal Eisenberg and Larry Arje, representatives from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) provided information resources on programs available to institutions including public schools and libraries.
